It was developed to achieve two objectives – 1) Maintain low inlet temperatures. 2) De-restrict the turbo inlet path. The first objective was met by enclosing the filter inside a carbon airbox and using the stock seal against the hood to block out the heat soak from the engine. Since the intake sits directly behind the radiator it is crucial that the filter is not exposed which would result in a loss of power through high IAT. The second objective was met by removing the flexible tubing and optimising the inlet path with a Venturi stack connected directly to the filter. Furthermore, we added a second inlet to the airbox with a scoop pulling in air from the inner wing area. This almost doubles the total cross sectional area through which the turbo can draw from as compared with the single entry on the stock system. Our carbon airbox enclosure has been designed to maximise the use of the available volume and block all sources of heat. The size of this inlet is very small at approximately 35cm^2. The demand from the turbo results in this opening becoming a restriction. However, simply opening the filter inside the engine bay is detrimental since the filter position is directly behind the radiator and once the engine warms up – the filter will become quickly saturated with heat. Our intake system solves this issue by keeping the filter enclosed inside an airbox and adding a secondary feed which opens the inlet area by another 28cm^2. This coupled with our Venturi Filter stack for smooth flow results in an immediate gain across the entire RPM range of 14-20hp. The dyno graph above shows the comparison between the stock airbox and the Eventuri intake system on a standard car with standard map and exhaust. Simply placing and open cone filter with any number of heat shielding in the same place will result in exactly the same problem – the system will pull in hot air and result in a loss of obtainable power. Our intake system utilises a cold air feed from the panel under the windscreen allowing the filter to be saturated with ambient air regardless of how hot the engine bay becomes. This coupled with our unique Venturi housing for smooth flow results in an immediate gain across the entire RPM range of 24-30hp and a significant torque increase of 28-35ft-lb over the stock airbox. We tested both stock and tuned cars to assess the impact of changing the intake for a less restrictive version. The NA 2.4L Boxer engine is sensitive to intake air temperatures so our initial priority was to ensure a fully sealed system. Dyno testing revealed a dip in power around 6000rpm on the stock ECU. This dip persists no matter what the intake configuration is – even with all possible restrictions removed, a higher flowing intake creates a strong engine resonance at this rpm causing a momentary dip below the stock curve. The stock airbox has a baffling effect at this rpm but then also restricts the power at the top end. By iterating our design through testing different intake lengths, single and dual duct openings and even adding baffles, we arrived at a version which minimises the resonance dip while gaining 14hp at the top end on the stock ECU. Heat and Volume are the main considerations when designing an intake for turbocharged engines. In the Supra, the intake system is located next to the exhaust manifold which rapidly heat soaks the engine bay. High temperatures are detrimental for engine performance as the turbo would have to build boost with heated, less dense air and so the only way to ensure IAT’s are kept to a minimum is for a fully sealed intake. This however, results in a restriction with only one stock air feed to draw air in from. During development we noticed an additional opening into the wheel arch area and took advantage of this by adding a secondary feed to our airbox. Furthermore our sealed airbox also has a heat shield with gold reflective to minimise the radiative heat transfer from the exhaust manifold. In order to maximise volume we made the airbox as large as possible with a recess for potential strut braces. The stock convoluted intake tube is replaced with a smooth carbon tube which is also larger in internal volume with a starting internal diameter of 111mm (4.4″) smoothly tapering down to match the turbo inlet. The tube provides a smooth path from the filter to the turbo inlet. This is the result of derestricting the inlet path while maintaining low inlet temperatures by keeping a fully sealed system.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eDyno testing an open cone system with the hood open will yield gains but once on the road with the hood closed the heat soak will cause a significant detriment to the power with the open cone sucking in hot air which is a significant problem on the Supra since the intake is directly next to the exhaust manifold and turbo. . With higher air temperature being less dense, the turbo will not make as much boost resulting in lower power. Furthermore, once the car is accelerating and the open cone intake has pulled through the standing hot air present, they will continue to pull in the heat generated by the engine and turbos as they spool. With the engine under load and accelerating, turbos produce a lot of heat which can even be seen with the hot sides glowing red. Our C63S intake is available in 2 configurations: 61mm ID outlets to match the stock and hybrid turbos and 3″ ID outlets to match larger aftermarket turbos.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cimg src=\"https:\/\/www.eventuri.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/48872036026_9f93542265_o-1024x427.webp\"\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eDyno tests were carried out on both a fully stock C63S and a stage 2 C63S which had downpipes and a remap. Above is the dyno graph for the stage 2 car which had the same tune on all runs and only the airbox was changed. Importantly the hood was closed for all runs to simulate road conditions. Dyno testing with the hood open – especially with open cone style intakes does not give a reliable indication of how the intakes are affecting power. On the road the hood is closed and so all the heat from the turbos is trapped in the engine bay. On the C63S this is intense heat which is why a sealed system is so crucial. Dyno testing an open cone system with the hood open will yield gains but once on the road the heat soak will cause a significant detriment to the power with the open cones sucking in the hot air. With higher air temperature being less dense, the turbos will not make as much boost resulting in lower power. Furthermore, once the car is accelerating and the open cone intakes have pulled through the standing hot air present, they will continue to pull in the heat generated by the engine and turbos as they spool. With the engine under load and accelerating, turbos produce a lot of heat which can even be seen with the hot sides glowing red.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eHere it can be seen with our fully sealed system that the power increases linearly after 4800rpm where the airflow demand increases and the stock airboxes become a restriction. These performance gains were measured after only changing the stock airbox for the Eventuri intake – all other modifications were present for both the stock airbox and the Eventuri intake.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe gains measured on the dyno translates on the road to increased part throttle and full throttle response with the car pulling much more eagerly to the redline. The testing was done on the same day back-to-back and temperatures were monitored to ensure consistency. The car was tested firstly with the stock intake – hood closed. We then left the car on the dyno and installed the Eventuri. The car was then run again – hood closed. In order to reduce the restriction from a sealed intake we have increased the volume of the airbox by relocating the ECU and also allowing an opening in the airbox on the cold side which is away from the direct heat of the manifold. The carbon inlet tube is larger in internal volume with a starting internal diameter of 111mm (4.4″) smoothly tapering down to match the turbo inlet pipe. The highlighted point shows a significant gain of power where the intake allows a higher flow rate to be maintained in the higher RPM range where the stock airbox starts to become a restriction. The resulting gains are noticeable on the road with better throttle response and improved acceleration times.
