Founded in 1950 SEAT is by far and away Spains best known and largest car manufacturer. Early in the 80s just after SEAT and FIAT decided to go their separate ways after a long standing relationship, the VW group bought into the SEAT brand and quickly integrated and engineered the German brands influence into all future SEAT models.

It's fair to say that SEAT didn't have a huge history of motorsport or performance models, however in the late 90's the motorsport arm of SEAT was formed, titled 'Cupra Racing'. This name would appear again in the SEAT Ibiza Cupra Sport for the first time on a road car, which then paved the way for a range of hot hatches from 2000-2017. In 2018 it was announced that Cupra would become a standalone performance brand, initially offering performance SEAT models, but in 2020 the Formentor was introduced as Cupra's first unique model.
