It's no secret that we love a BMW here at JXL Performance, and once we saw that BMW had announced the G90 M5, we were quick to look for more details...
The headline figures as they stand:
- 717bhp
- 738lb-ft of torque
- 0-60mph in 3.4 seconds
- 25 mile electric range
All of that sounds good... right? It does until you hear the weight! Tipping the scale at over 2.4 tonnes, the M5 has drastically increased its' weight, so much so that the new G90 is only just 50kg light than a Rolls Royce Ghost! - +30% weight compared to the outgoing M5 - despite carrying a significant amount more weight, the engineers at BMW's M Division claim that the G90 M5 keeps all the driving dynamics we know and love from previous iterations.
Headline numbers aside, the G90 BMW M5 uses an updated version of BMW's 4.4 litre, twin-turbocharged motor found in the previous generation. Except the G90 now has the assistance of an electric motor to bump up power, and to aid with emissions. It also features an updated interior which brings the M5 into line with the rest of the model range and their tech-orientated cockpits.
BMW have denied the addition of a "Competition" variant, instead they have confirmed a G91 (Touring) variant, alongside hints at a CS flagship model further down the line. Customer deliveries start in November 2024, will you be on the list?
