Menacing new Volkswagen Golf R MK8.5 makes an appearance

Drum roll please... The new Volkswagen Golf R has now finally launched!
Volkswagen recently announced the addition of the "Mk8.5", a face-lift version of the Mk8, with that comes a new hot new model which pushes the Golf R's power up by 20! Largely down to software updates and the "lag-free" turbo, it means that the new Golf R can complete the 0-60 sprint in just 4.6 seconds! Not bad for a family hatch.
The top speed sits at 155mph, however this can be increased with the optional Performance Package up to a VMAX of 167mph. Volkswagen state that the new 8.5 R now sits level with its bigger, roomier brother, the Arteon R Shooting Brake.
Featuring a newly designed front-end and slimmer grille, 3D LED headlights and an illuminated VW badge, add to that new bumpers, air cutains and optional lightweight alloys (Warmenau), which VW claim to improve stability, and reduce thermal stress. The cockpit houses a 12.9" Chat-GPT assisted infotainment system (mouthful, eh!) There's also an optional G-Meter and GPS Lap Timer included within the Performance package.
Some of you keen-eyed readers may notice the header image being a slightly different iteration to a "normal" Golf - that is the Golf R Black edition, and VW consider it to be a true homage to the "essence" of an R. Top to bottom in gloss black,19" optional rims, black VW badges, black exhaust tips, black brake calipers and they have even darkened the IQ matrix lights and added a different rear spoiler designed to add downforce.
What do you think? We are fans of the Golf R platform.... maybe we'll wait for prices to drop before we sink an eye-watering amount of money on our own Black Edition.
