When building a high-horsepower race engine, standard OEM bearings are a major failure point under extreme load. ACL Race Series engine bearings are universally recognized as the premier upgrade for motorsport and high-performance applications, offering the exact tolerances, advanced metallurgy, and extreme endurance required to set records in everything from drift cars to professional drag racing.
Standard factory bearings are designed for quiet operation and long service intervals at standard power levels. ACL Race Series bearings utilize a highly specialized Trimetal construction (lead, tin, and copper with a nickel barrier). This metallurgy provides superior strength and seizure resistance while remaining deformable enough to embed microscopic debris. Furthermore, ACL increases the bearing "crush" for maximum retention within the housing, improving heat dissipation and preventing the bearing from spinning under massive torque spikes.
Rebuilding your bottom end requires specific bearing types depending on their location and function within the engine block:
Conrod Bearings (Big End Bearings): These sit inside the connecting rod and wrap around the crankshaft journals. They take the direct, violent impact of the combustion event every time a cylinder fires.
Main Bearings: These are mounted in the engine block and support the main journals of the spinning crankshaft. ACL Race main bearings often feature extended oil grooves (such as 3/4 grooved designs) to optimize oil flow to the conrod bearings at high RPMs.
"HX" Extra Clearance Bearings: For extreme duty or drag race applications using thicker racing oils, ACL offers "HX" bearings. The "X" signifies an extra 0.025mm (0.001") of oil clearance compared to standard (H-STD) sizes, allowing for greater thermal expansion and improved hydrodynamic oil film.
Whether you are forging a BMW B58 or N55, rebuilding a VW/Audi EA888 Gen 3 for Stage 3 boost, strengthening a BMW S63 V8, or building a Honda K20C1 for the track, JXL Performance supplies the exact ACL Race Series shells you need with fast domestic and international shipping options.
