Founded in 1903 Ford Motor Company is often the first brand many people associate with the car, thanks mainly to the first mass produced model, the Model T. Ford has an illustrious history with performance models, regularly referred to as 'Fast Fords', the first of which was the Ford 'Lotus' Cortina where power was boosted from 60 to 105bhp! Over the years many nameplates have come and gone including XR3, XR4 and Cosworth however the two that have lived on throughout the 21st century are the 'ST' and 'RS' designations.
The RS name can trace its routes back to the 60s, however the car that really made the name go down in the history books was the Sierra RS Cosworth. Every RS model since has followed a very familiar recipe, a unique engine in a limited life model, almost all of which have become legends in their own right.
The ST lineup is much more recent with the first cars launching in the late 90s, however the ST has always been the more affordable and easier to live with alternative to the full fat RS models. The Fiesta ST Mk7 (ST180) will almost certainly be looked back on as one of the all time hot hatch greats and laid the foundations for the Mk8 Fiesta ST and Mk4 Focus ST to be right at the top of their respective classes.
