Founded in 1937 Volkswagen is the largest and most well known German brand for Automobiles. In the early days of VW they were best known for the beetle, however in 1974, the VW Golf was born which later spawned the Golf GTI, widely recognised as the very first 'hot hatch'. The GTI name has featured on every generation of the Golf since and still follows the core values of what made the original car such a success.
Fast forward to the 4th generation Golf and an even hotter model placed above the GTI was born with the 'R32', which for the first time on a hot golf featured 4 wheel drive. The GTI and R names have now spread across almost all of the modern VW range with even the supermini Up! featuring a GTI model.
