2024 Honda Tuning Blog

Honda and tuning are like bread and butter, meant to be!

Even back to the likes of the EG and EK Honda Civics, tuning has been incredibly popular across the lifespan of the Japanese brand and that's no different with the newer, turbocharged offferings from Honda such as the FK2, FK8 and FL5 Civic Type R.

Honda ECU Tuning:

There are multiple ways you are able to tune your Honda ECU, the cheapest and most basic is through a tuning box. Tuning boxes usually connect to a number of sensors to increase the parameters of the ECU in a safe way. Other, more popular methods come from the likes of Hondata, ECUTek or KTuner.

Stage 1 Honda ECU tuning:

Stage 1, much like other makes and model constitutes of a number of optional upgrades, plus an ECU tune. Please remember to check with your tuner reference packages for your model year, and model of vehicle.

  • Panel filter, or induction kit
  • Cat-back exhaust optional
  • Stage 1 ECU tune, either via tuning box, KTuner, Hondata, ECUTek etc.
  • Intercooler may be required on some models

Stage 2 Honda ECU tuning:

Stage 2 tuning elevates Stage 1 by further programming the boost, ignition timing and other important factors on your motor. The requirements needed are as follows:

  • Stage 1 parts as mentioned above (Panel filter and/or induction kit, cat-back)
  • Intercooler (Most Hondas will require an upgraded intercooler at this level)
  • Upgraded downpipe, sports-cat or de-cat
  • Stage 2 ECU tune

Stage 3 Honda ECU tuning:

Stage 3 takes what has been already added and then ties everything nicely together with a turbo. All of your parts will work in harmony to produce a much larger amount of BHP/TQ than stock, please note, engine reinforcement or forging may be required to operate at this level safely.

  • Stage 2 parts (Intercooler, Downpipe, Induction kit)
  • Upgraded turbo (either hybrid of full-frame)
  • Upgraded fuel pump (in-tank, or HPFP, check with your tuner)

Each car make and model has different requirements for their Stage 3 packages, some vehicles require additional auxillary upgrades, others do not. Please check with your tuner before progressing.

How do you put that power down?

Hondas are extremely well known for their handling capabilities from factory with very well set up geometry and suspension. When it comes to extra power, it is ALWAYS recommended to improve the brakes, and the handling of the vehicle to be able to cope with the extra power, on the road and on the track.
