Founded in 1931, Porsche is best known for its sports car models, predominantly the 911. The first official Porsche model was the 356 in 1948, which shared some underpinnings with the VW Beetle, not surprising when Ferdinand Porsche had both designed the Beetle and founded the company that bared his name. The first 911 came in 1964, initially called the 901 until Peugeot protested that they owned the rights to the name.

The modern Porsche range has a huge variety including family SUVs and high performance saloon cars, however the core of the company remains purely focused on sports cars and the 911 still remains in the current lineup alongside the more attainable Boxster and Cayman model line. The true proof of Porsche's engineering is just how broad the lineup of engine configurations are available in a single model, the 911 is available as a lightweight stripped back Carrera T, a world conquering Turbo S supercar, and a track dominating GT3RS, all in the same family.
