BMW has officially unveiled the new M2 CS, the most performance-oriented version of the G87-generation M2 to date – and potentially the final pure-combustion iteration of the brand’s compact M car.

Starting at £86,800, the M2 CS represents a significant step up in both performance and focus over the standard model. Arriving six years after the original F87-based M2 CS, this new variant delivers 523bhp from its turbocharged 3.0-litre straight-six engine – a 50bhp increase over the regular G87 M2. This output not only surpasses its predecessor's 444bhp but also edges past that of the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS.
In keeping with the CS ethos, weight-saving has been a priority. Extensive use of carbon fibre – including the replacement of the standard metal roof and boot panels – results in a 30kg reduction, bringing the kerb weight down to 1700kg. This contributes to a 0–62mph time of 3.8 seconds.

Chassis revisions accompany the increased power. The M2 CS features stiffer engine mounts, bespoke suspension tuning, and upgrades to the steering, braking system and differentials. A lightweight titanium M Performance exhaust is available as an option, engineered specifically for this model to provide a more pronounced exhaust note.
The CS sits 8mm lower than the standard M2 and benefits from subtle yet purposeful aerodynamic changes. These include a redesigned bootlid with an integrated ducktail-style spoiler, a revised rear diffuser, and lightweight alloy wheels finished exclusively in Golden Bronze. Customers can choose from four exterior colours: Black Sapphire, Portimao Blue, Brooklyn Grey and Velvet Blue.

Inside, the cabin reflects the car’s performance brief. Standard equipment includes an Alcantara-trimmed steering wheel with carbon fibre shift paddles, M Carbon bucket seats – which are optional on other models – and a carbon fibre centre console with a red CS insignia.
Despite its track-oriented nature, the M2 CS retains a degree of everyday usability, offering features such as a heated steering wheel, three-zone climate control, a head-up display and a Harman Kardon sound system.

Production of the M2 CS will be limited, with UK deliveries expected to commence towards the end of the summer.
