If you’ve ever caught yourself daydreaming about what it’d be like to drive a Le Mans racer on the open road, well — Porsche might just be about to make that fantasy a reality. The iconic brand has been spotted testing what looks very much like a road-going version of its ferocious 963 LMDh race car. Yes, the same machine that’s been tearing it up at Le Mans could soon be something you can (technically) take to the shops. Madness!

Spy shots taken recently in Germany show a heavily camouflaged prototype that’s clearly based on the 963 endurance racer. And while Porsche hasn’t officially confirmed anything yet, it’s pretty obvious this isn’t your average test mule. We’re talking wild aero, wide arches, centre-lock wheels — the lot. It’s aggressive, it’s low, and it screams performance.
Under the skin, this road-going beast is expected to share a fair bit with the track version. That means a 4.6-litre twin-turbo V8, believed to push out somewhere in the region of 670bhp. The engine’s roots trace back to the 918 Spyder, so there’s no shortage of pedigree here. And with the 963’s Multimatic-built chassis and hybrid wizardry, the street-legal version is likely to be just as much a technical showcase as it is a driving experience.

Of course, don’t expect Porsche to just slap on some indicators and call it a day. If this does come to market — and it really looks like it will — it’s probably going to be a limited-run, high-ticket halo car. Think something in the same vein as the 911 GT1 Straßenversion or the Mercedes-AMG One. An absolute weapon for the road, with price tags to match.
At JXL Performance, we’re seriously excited about this. We’ve always had a soft spot for Porsches, and we’ve just added a whole load of new Porsche parts to the site — from performance upgrades to OEM+ enhancements and styling pieces. So whether you’re driving a 911, a Cayman, or even just dreaming of a future 963 on your driveway, we’ve got something to bring that Porsche magic a little closer to home.
