GR Supra bows out with 435hp Final Edition

Toyota Supra Final Edition: A Grand Farewell to the A90 Generation

The Toyota Supra has always been an impressive machine, though some have argued that it lacked the raw attitude of a true sports car. Even with the introduction of a manual transmission, the A90 generation remained a refined, well rounded performer rather than an outright purist’s choice, possibly down to it's relationship with the BMW Z4. However, good things come to those who wait, especially in the realm of high performance Toyotas. As the A90 generation prepares to make its exit, Toyota is sending it off in style with the Final Edition, featuring a manual gearbox, a nostalgic nod to the golden era of sports cars.

Supra Final Edition: Power and Precision Redefined

Distinguished by its sleek black exterior, the final edition stands out for its substantial performance enhancements. While many special editions focus on aesthetic tweaks, Toyota has taken a different approach, boosting power output to an impressive 435 horsepower, nearly 100hp more than the standard 3.0 litre turbocharged straight-six. Thanks to a recalibrated intake, a new catalytic converter for reduced exhaust back pressure, and optimised engine controls, torque has also been increased from 369 lb-ft to a robust 420 lb-ft. Toyota claims this powerhouse now boasts a top speed of 168 mph.

Beneath the surface, the Final Edition receives a host of serious performance upgrades. Suspension is upgraded with KW coilovers, Toyota notes these are the same suppliers for the GT4 race units, offering 16 rebound and 12 compression settings for precise handling adjustments. Additional negative camber on both axles, substantial bracing behind the seats, and revised electric power steering promise to address prior concerns about front end confidence. New anti-roll bars further refine the driving dynamics, while Michelin Cup 2 tires, slightly wider than the standard set, provide additional grip and stability.

Braking performance is also enhanced, featuring improved pads, drilled brake discs engineered for high performance driving, and stainless steel brake hoses for superior pedal feel. Additional upgrades include a baffled oil sump for improved lubrication under high G forces, enhanced cooling systems, and a rigidly mounted rear subframe akin to a race car. Inside, a pair of premium carbon Recaro seats solidifies the car’s aggressive, driver focused nature. While the Final Edition may not carry the GRMN badge, it is undeniably a thoroughbred performance machine. Unfortunately, with only 300 units planned for global production, this exhilarating package will be an exclusive offering.

A Fitting Tribute to an Icon

The final edition represents a compelling sendoff for the A90 Supra, blending power, precision, and an engaging manual gearbox to deliver an authentic sports car experience. With European sales set to begin in spring 2025, fans eagerly await their chance to experience this final iteration. Let’s hope that the UK market gets its fair share of these remarkable machines, because Toyota’s parting gift to the Supra is one worth celebrating.
